Manually Removing Acrobat Reader 3.0x from Windows

You can manually remove Adobe Acrobat Reader 3.0x from Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows NT 4.0 by deleting the Acrobat Reader files and then modifying the Windows registry.

Disclaimer: The registry contains system-related information that is critical to your computer and applications. Before modifying the registry, be sure to make a backup copy of it. Adobe does not provide support for problems that arise from improperly modifying the registry. Adobe strongly recommends that you have experience editing system files before you modify the registry. Windows 95 or 98

To remove Acrobat Reader 3.0x from Windows 95 or 98:

1. Quit Acrobat Reader if it’s open.

2. Move any documents (e.g., PDF files) you want to keep from the Acrobat3 folder to another folder.

3. Restart your computer to ensure that Windows isn’t using any of the files you want to delete.

4. Delete the Acrobat3Reader folder.

5. Open the Windows folder; select and then delete the Acroread.ini file.

6. Open the WindowsStart MenuProgramsAdobe Acrobat folder; select and then delete the following shortcuts:

Uninstall Acrobat Reader 3.0x

7. Choose Start > Run.

8. Type “regedit” in the Open text field and then click OK to start the Windows Registry Editor.

9. In the Registry Editor, make a backup copy of the registry by choosing Registry > Export Registry File. In the Export Registry File dialog box, choose a location and type a name for the backup file, then click Save.

10. Locate and then select the following folders (i.e., keys), then choose Edit > Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Delete Dialog box.

NOTE: Make sure that you remove only the specified subfolders, but not the folders containing them.

11. Exit from the registry to save the changes.

12. Restart the computer.

Windows NT 4.0

To remove Acrobat Reader 3.0x from Windows NT 4.0:

1. Quit Acrobat Reader if it’s open.

2. Move any documents (e.g., PDF files) you want to keep from the Acrobat3 folder to another folder.

3. Restart your computer to ensure that Windows isn’t using any of the files you want to delete.

4. Delete the Acrobat3Reader folder.

5. Open the Windows folder; select and then delete the Acroread.ini file.

6. Open the WINNTProfilesAll UsersStart MenuProgramsAdobe Acrobat folder; select and then delete the following shortcuts (if the Adobe Acrobat folder contains only these shortcuts, you can delete the Adobe Acrobat folder):

7. Choose Start > Run.
