November 19th, 2009 by ART-D Posted in Adobe Photoshop, Text Effects
Next step we’ll download a set of brushes for in Adobe Photoshop, named: grunge procedural. Create a new layer and choose for it the next brush from downloaded set.
Apply here some brush strokes as shown. The brush’s color is grey (Opacity 15%). This layer will be placed lower than the layer containing the 2010.

Set for the last made layer Fill to 66% and change the Blending Mode to Screen

Create again a new layer and select here a Soft Round brush of white color from Brush Tool (B)

Represent the illumination under the text’s layers:

Next we’ll create a new layer which must filled with Paint Bucket Tool (G) and fill it with #545454 color. The layer needs to be situated lower than the layers with the text in Layers panel:

Add some noise for this layer using Filter>Noise>Add Noise

We’ve got the next background:

… and then apply Filter>Blur>Radial blur

We’ve got the next effect:

… and finally apply Filter>Filter Gallery>Glowing Edges

This is the result so far:

Select Add layer mask icon from bottom part of the Layers panel. Change the foreground color to black. Select a Soft Round brush of black color

Paint around the text to remove the rays’ effect. Set the Blending Mode to Screen for this layer

Create a new layer and select the Paint Bucket Tool (G) to fill the layer with this color – #6A413F. Place this layer under the layers containing the text 2010.

Set Fill to 25% and change Blending Mode to Overlay for this layer

Select Create new fill or adjustment layer icon from bottom part of the Layers panel and click to Curves to adjust the curve shape as shown:

We’ve got the next effect:

The final result!

Interesting tutorial. I would just have liked to see a more metallic and shiny effect on the letters themselves. They seem a little too smooth to me. Anyway great tutorial, keep up the good work.
