Yellow Portrait Photo Effect
This lesson you’ll see one of the unusual method of photo’s processing. You’ll see also how to use different textures, work with the layers and change the colors.
Open the photo for processing: File – Open (ctrl+o).
Correct the brightness and the contrast, using Image – Adjustments – Levels (ctrl+l).
Create then a new layer, making use of the fast button in the Layers window.
Choose after that the Brush Tool to paint the textile on which the girl lies on.
Blur it out a little with Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur.
Change the layer’s type on Linear Burn and merge it down with the previous one: Layer – Merge Down (ctrl+e).
Open in a new window now the texture with the ornaments.
Mark it out (Rectangular Marquee Tool) and copy the ornaments: Edit – Copy (ctrl+c). Get back to the file with the processed picture and insert it on a new layer: Edit – Paste (ctrl+v). Choosing the Polygonal Lasso Tool, you have to mark out the central flower.
Erase it. The rest of the ornaments must be decolorized: Image – Adjustments – Desaturate (shift+ctrl+u).
Increase its brightness (Levels).
And then change the layer’s type on Hard Light, minimizing its Opacity also till 25%.
Get back to the girl’s layer, giving to her eyes a luminescent effect.
It’s possible to do that with the Dodge Tool.
Correct now the colors of the girl’s layer, using Image – Adjustments – Selective Color and Image – Adjustments – Curves (ctrl+m).
On a new layer, above the girl’s one, must be painted her eyes (Brush Tool).
Change the layer’s type on Color Burn and minimize the Opacity till 50%.
Insert a flower’s picture on a new layer, above the girl’s one.
Erase the background the flower is situated on (Polygonal Lasso Tool). Applying next the given selection Edit – Free Transform (ctrl+t) you must place the flower on the girl’s hair.
Blur out its edges, using the Blur Tool. Minimize the brightness and the contrast with Curves.
You have to create now the effect of falling flower’s shadow. It’s possible to do that applying next combination: Layer – Duplicate Layer (ctrl+j). Make the copy look absolutely black with Image – Adjustments – Brightness/Contrast.
Place this layer under the flower’s one, blurring it a little with special filter (Gaussian Blur). Distort it too with Edit – Transform – Distort.
Minimize the layer’s Opacity till 34%. Copy the layer with the flower (ctrl+j), create a new one and group both of them: Layer – Create Clipping Mask (ctrl+g). Paint the upper one in yellow with Paint Bucket Tool. Merge it down with the Copy – Layer (ctrl+e) and change the layer’s type on Linear Burn.
Choosing the Ellipse Tool on a new layer we should represent a lot of small circles of different sizes, close to the girl’s eyes. The circles may be equal by keeping pressed the Shift button. Change the layer’s type on Soft Light.
To get a more intensive picture, copy the layer (ctrl+j) and then blur out a little the copy (Gaussian Blur).
Combine these layers with the girl’s layer (ctrl+e) and insert on the top layer the next texture.
Stretch it out on the entire sheet: Edit – Transform – Distort.
Change its color on the blue one with the next combination: Image – Adjustments – Hue/Saturation (ctrl+u).
Blur it out with Gaussian Blur and correct after that the colors (ctrl+u).
Change the layer’s type on Soft Light and minimize the Opacity till 80%.
Merge down all the layers: Layer – Merge Visible (shift+ctrl+e) and make use of the Crop Tool and Paint Bucket Tool to insert the picture in a frame.
Take a butterfly’s picture next.
Insert it on a new layer by erasing the background with Polygonal Lasso Tool. Copy the layer (ctrl+j) and correct the butterfly’s size, its placement and distort level, applying Free Transform (ctrl+t) and Distort.
Correct the color (ctrl+m).
Then copy many times the big butterfly’s layer (ctrl+j). Change the size and the placement’s angle of the copies – butterflies (ctrl+t). Fill one of the corners with them and after that all the layers containing the butterflies must be merged down.
Change the layer’s type on Soft Light and minimize the layer’s Opacity till 20%.
Cut out now a lady bird from another picture.
And place it on one of the flower’s petal.
Add its shadow the same way we did with the flower’s shadow.
Combine now all the layers (shift+ctrl+u) and copy the last one (ctrl+j). Blur it out with Gaussian Blur and change the new layer’s type on Color Burn. Minimize the Opacity till 25%.
Finished!
