Human Statue Photo Effects

In this tutorial we will learn several methods of decolorizing the photos, add the missing parts of the statue, use the layers’ masks for combining different pictures, insert the shadows and make the picture look older as it is for real.

Open in a new window the picture of an old room: File ? Open (ctrl+o).

human statue

Now we have to make the correction on the layer’s brightness and contrast: Image ? Adjustments ? Levels (ctrl+l).

human statue

Making the corrections on the color is possible to do with the next selection: Image ? Adjustments ? Curves (ctrl+m).

human statue

Make a copy of this layer: Layer ? Duplicate Layer (ctrl+j) and decolorize the copy, using the next command: Image ? Apply Image.

human statue

Create a mask out of this layer: Layer ? Add Layer Mask ? Reveal All and choose the Gradient Tool of black color to make the layer invisible on the top.

human statue

Now we may combine the layers: Layer ? Merge Down (ctrl+e). Open in a new window the picture of a statue (ctrl+o).

human statue

Mark it out with the Polygonal Lasso Tool and make a copy of it: Edit ? Copy (ctrl+c). Get back to the previous window and insert it on a new layer: Edit ? Paste (ctrl+v). If that is necessary we may also change the statue’s size, applying the next selection: Edit ? Free Transform (ctrl+t).

human statue

Create a mask out of this layer and make the stone the statue is situated on invisible on its bottom, applying Gradient Tool.

human statue

Then apply the next command: Layer ? Remove Layer Mask ? Apply and decolorize the layer, applying the option from here: Image ? Adjustments ? Channel Mixer.

human statue

Make the corrections on the layer’s brightness and the contrast (ctrl+l).

human statue

Insert now the statue’s falling shadow, but it’s necessary firstly to make a copy of the layer (ctrl+j) and then make the lowest copy look totally black, applying Image ? Adjustments ? Channel Mixer.

human statue

Then distort it, using next command: Edit ? Transform ? Distort.

human statue

Next we have to blur out the layer: Filter ? Blur ? Gaussian Blur.

human statue

Finally we may change the layer’s Blending Mode on Multiply and set the Opacity on 40%.

human statue

Now we must create a new layer: Layer ? New ? Layer and group it out with that layer, the statue is situated on: Layer ? Create Clipping Mask. Choose now the Polygonal Lasso Tool and mark out that part of the statue situated in the shadow. Paint this part with the usual instrument ? Paint Bucket Tool.

human statue

Move off the markings: Select ? Deselect (ctrl+d) and blur out the layer in case (Gaussian Blur) with the same adjustments of the statue’s shadow. Change the layer’s Blending Mode on Multiply and set the Opacity on 30%.

human statue

Insert on a new layer the picture of a girl that has the same shoulders’ turning the statue has: (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/41904355/?qo=7&q=by%3Apolly-stock&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps).

human statue

Mark out the background the girl is situated on and delete it. Now we have to minimize the layer’s Opacity till 50% and place the girl in a way as for her shoulders to coincide with the statue’s shoulders. Apply the next selection for this operation: Edit – Free Transform (ctrl+t).

human statue

Create a mask out of this layer and try to hide a part of her body, choosing the Gradient Tool.

human statue

Now we have to mark out and delete that part of the statue, coming out from the girl’s behind. Make the corrections on the layer’s brightness and contrast (ctrl+l).

human statue

Insert the girl’s shadow the same way we did with the statue’s one:

human statue

Insert on a new layer the picture of a waterfall:

human statue

Mark out and delete the unnecessary zones of the picture. Turn the picture horizontally: Edit ? Transform ? Flip Horizontal and correct its size (ctrl+t). Place the rest part near the jug’s neck the statue holds in her hand. Create a mask out of this layer, applying the Gradient Tool and hide the unnecessary zones.

human statue

Apply the next command now: Layer ? Remove Layer Mask ? Apply and decolorize the layer, selecting the Channel Mixer.

human statue

Choose now the Brush Tool and download the brushes of twine plants shape (find them on this address: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/26387707/?qo=30&q=by%3Afalln-brushes&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps) and place them above the door’s aperture on a new layer, correcting the size and the placement’s angle if that is necessary (ctrl+t).

human statue

Select the Gradient Tool now and apply it by darkening the upper part of the grouped plants’ layer.

human statue

Insert on a new layer the picture of a maple leaf.

human statue

Mark out and erase the background of the leaf (because it is white, we use for this operation the Magic Wand Tool) and make several copies of the layer (ctrl+j), changing the size of the leaves (ctrl+g) and their distort level: Edit ? Transform ? Distort. Try to make a composition of these leaves placed by the statue’s legs.

human statue

Insert each leaf’s shadow, applying the next command: Layer ? Layer Style ? Drop Shadow.

human statue

Then merge down all the leaves’ layers (ctrl+e).

human statue

Decolorize the new layer that we’ve got (Channel Mixer).

human statue

Select the Gradient Tool and paint the leaves’ lighter part on the grouped layer:

human statue

Change the layer’s Blending Mode on Overlay and set the Opacity on 77%.

human statue

Now we have to make the corrections on the girl’s layer color, selecting the next command: Image ? Adjustments ? Selective Color.

human statue

Download now a set of ready to use brushes with cracks (find them here: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/32549115/?qo=20&q=by%3Aanarasha-stock&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps). Try to make the stone’s transition to the statue’s body looking more natural:

human statue

Select again the Gradient Tool to insert the light on the girl’s body on the grouped layer and change the layer’s Blending Mode on Soft Light:

human statue

Insert on a new layer the texture of an old paper:

human statue

Turn it over, using next combination: Edit ? Transform ? Rotate 90 CW and change the layer’s Blending Mode on Color Burn.

human statue
