Making a colorful and glow, vector like wallpaper
Actually this tutorial supposed to be on making a colorful and glow, vector like wallpaper and it came to be a character
concept. So let’s figure this out, shall we?
First … as usual.
Now for my next step – as it is a vector like wallpaper now – I would like to create simple objects and then define them as
brushes to create more flexible environment for this tutorial.
So here are my shapes done with a mere, just one, rough round brush.
So as you can see all these shapes were created on the background and now we have to separate them one from another and
define them as brushes for further usage in Photoshop.
So make selections and cut the layers from background to separated layers.
If you like that your brushes react properly you should get them straight in the square document, well of course if the
brushes have more or less geometric equal sides.
I will now create a square document.
Drag each of the shape on a new document and then define each brush you like. I even made some more combining existing shapes
or applying an effect like blur to my shapes.
And here they are.
So let’s make a background first. For this I’ m going to use one of my nearly created brushes and a filter.
Radial blur:
So the next several stages will be done this way:
First draw some pattern with our newly created brushes, and then change the layer mode to Overlay.
Use radial blur – Zoom for your patterns.
Create new layer for each new pattern and change the color of the brush.
Zoomed:
As you can see I’m not using radical colors because I want for this blast effect to feel like one single something.
Now when you think you are satisfied with all the color works going on in that blast merge all the layers together – Flatten
the image.
So, when you’ve flatten the image create a copy of the image and change the mode to multiply.
See my layer box on the right.
In this moment I realized that it should be a character. I’m adding some green to where the body should be.
The only details I’m going to do here is the left arm of the character and the head – the part of it.
And here we have it. We did a fast character concept; I really dig his something like robe, so it will definitely be a swami
or something like shaman king. I also like how the head is looking – even if I haven’t dropped any details- the color
connection is good too. So I hope you’ve enjoyed the process, because I really did. I think I will finish this one.
