    Remove Acrobat Elements (6.x on Windows XP and 2000)

    Manually remove Acrobat Elements

    To remove Adobe Acrobat Elements, Adobe recommends that you use the Add Or Remove Programs utility. Optionally, you can manually remove Acrobat Elements . Adobe Reader 6.0 installs with Acrobat Elements, so following the instructions in this document will also remove Adobe Reader.

    Remove Acrobat Elements using the Add Or Remove Programs utility

    Adobe recommends that you use the Add Or Remove Programs utility to remove Acrobat Elements from the system, which is a simpler procedure than removing Acrobat Elements manually.

    Note: If you use the Add Or Remove Programs utility and it doesn't remove the Program Files\Acrobat 6.0 folder, manually remove Acrobat Elements.

    To remove Acrobat Elements using the Add Or Remove Programs utility:

    1. Quit Acrobat Elements.

    2. Move any documents (for example, PDF documents) you want to keep from Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0 to another folder.

    3. Choose Start > Control Panel (Windows XP) or Start > Settings > Control Panel (Windows 2000).

    4. Double-click Add Or Remove Programs.

    5. Select Adobe Acrobat Elements 6.0, and click Remove.

    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Acrobat Elements.

    If Windows doesn't remove Acrobat Elements (for example, it returns an error), perform one of the following tasks:

    -- Reinstall Acrobat Elements to the same folder and then repeat steps 1-6.

    -- Manually remove Acrobat Elements.

    Manually remove Acrobat Elements

    You can remove Acrobat Elements from the system by manually deleting Acrobat Elements and its associated folders and files.

    To remove Acrobat Elements manually:

    1. Quit Acrobat Elements.

    2. Move any documents (for example, PDF documents) you want to keep from Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Acrobat Elements to another folder.

    3. Enable Windows Explorer to display all filename extensions (for example, filename.ini). (By default, Windows Explorer hides filename extensions it recognizes. For instructions on how to enable Windows Explorer to display filename extensions, see the Notes section of the "Display hidden files and folders" topic in Windows Help.)

    4. Restart the computer to ensure that Windows isn't using any of the files you want to delete.

    5. End the AcroTray.exe process from the Windows Task Manager folder:

    a. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, and then click Task Manager in the Windows Security dialog box.

    b. Click the Processes tab, select AcroTray.exe, and then click End Process.

    c. Click Yes in the Task Manager Warning dialog box.

    d. Quit Task Manager.

    6. Delete Acrobat Assistant from Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup.

    7. In Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Distillr, locate adistres.dll and rename it to adistres.old.

    8. Locate AcroDistDLL.dll and rename it to AcroDistDLL.old.

    9. Restart the computer.

    10. Delete Acrobat 6.0 from Program Files\Adobe. If you can't delete PDF.ocx or AcroIEHelper.dll, complete the following procedure:

    a. Choose Start > Run, type cmd in the Open box of the Run dialog box, and then click OK.

    b. On the first command line of the Command Prompt window, type cd [hard disk] \Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX , and then press Enter. For example,

    cd "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX"

    c. At the prompt, type regsvr32 /u PDF.ocx , and then press Enter. For example, the line might read:

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX>regsvr32 /u PDF.ocx

    d. At the prompt, type regsvr32 /u AcroIEHelper.dll , and then press Enter. For example, the line might read

    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 6.0\Reader\ActiveX>regsvr32 /u AcroIEHelper.dll

    e. Close the Command Prompt window, and then restart the computer.

    f. Delete Acrobat 6.0 from Program Files\Adobe.

    11. Delete Acrobat 6.0 from Program Files\Common Files\Adobe.

    12. Delete Adobe Acrobat Elements 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0, if present, from Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop.

    13. Delete Adobe Acrobat Elements 6.0 and Adobe Reader 6.0 from Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs.

    14. Delete PrintMe Internet Printing from Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs.

    15. Delete Adobe PDF 6.0 from Documents and Settings\All Users\ [Documents or Shared Documents] .

    16. Delete Distiller 6 from Documents and Settings\ [username] \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat.

    17. Delete Acrobat Distiller 6 from Documents and Settings\ [username] \Local Settings\Temp.

    18. If you use eBooks, perform the following tasks:

    -- Move Documents and Settings\ [username] \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\6.0\eBooks to another location, and then delete Documents and Settings\ [username] \Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\6.0.

    -- Move the contents of Documents and Settings\ [username] \My Documents\My eBooks to another location, and then delete Documents and Settings\ [username] \My Documents\My eBooks.

    19. Delete the following files from Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 (Windows XP) or Winnt\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3 (Windows 2000):

    ad2kgelp.ini

    ad2kregp.dll

    ad2kuigp.dll

    adpdf6.bpd

    adpdf6.ppd

    ps5ui.dll

    pscript.hlp

    pscript.ntf

    pscript5.dll

    20. Delete the following files from Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86, if they are present:

    ad2kgelp.ini

    ad2kregp.dll

    ad2kuigp.dll

    ADPDF6.PPD

    ps5ui.dll

    pscript.hlp

    pscript.ntf

    pscript5.dll

    21. Delete adobePDF.dll from Windows\system32.

    22. Delete 6.0 from Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat.

    23. Delete {AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-000000000001} and {E5E6E687-1033-BA7E-6000-000000000001} from Windows\Installer.

    24. If Microsoft Internet Explorer is installed, delete nppdf32.dll from Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS.

    25. If Netscape Navigator 7.x is installed, delete nppdf32.dll from Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\plugins.

    26. If Microsoft Office is installed, delete the following files:

    -- PDFMaker.dot in Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office [version] \Startup

    -- PDFMaker.xla in Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office [version] \XLStart

    -- PDFMaker.xla in Documents and Settings\ [username] \Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART
